Maple Weekend Wrap Up – Our warmest thanks to all the visitors we had this weekend.  Everyone was appreciative of all the hard work we do, the products we provide and the maple experience we offer. Folks were patient and gracious even when we ran out of products in the late afternoon Sunday.  And with over 2,000+ visitors there was no trash left behind.  Thank you all for using the trash receptacles and honoring the environment.  You’re the Best!!

And we can’t begin to thank our family enough for all the help they gave us this weekend.  Mom, Meg, Lynn, Terry, Andrea, Tyler, Kristy & Simon got us through a record weekend.  They are our support team always and we love them dearly.

Maple Month – Week #4 – We will be restocked next weekend with syrup, candy, cream, sugar and taffy.  Hours will be 12-4pm Saturday March 31st and Easter Sunday April 1st.  Hope to see you then.

Sincerely,

Brian & Sue Folsom

Another year, another season and no telling yet how things will go.  But that’s what you get dealing with the whims of the natural environment.  This week has been pretty good for sap flow.  Looks like the trees are pumping out plenty today after the sugar snow we had last night.  Good thing since the warm temps mid-week will shut things off until we get another freeze up.  With a bit of luck that should happen Thursday or Friday.  There were a few folks in this weekend looking for pointers on doing their own sugaring.  It’s always great to help them out and know that it’s such a great family activity to share.  Can’t beat it. Once again we have some maple DIY kits for sale for only 10.00!  Feel free to stop in to pick one up and try it out.  But watch out – you could get hooked.  We did. lol

WreathIt’s only 12 more days until our Holiday Open House.  Brian has been making wreaths non-stop since his first cutting on Nov. 9th.  Mom and I have just finished making the wreath prototypes for the decorated ones.  It’s always so much fun bringing them to life and enjoying the creative flow from each other as we try to make something fun and festive for folks to enjoy.  Most of you probably don’t know we’ve been making wreaths as long as we’ve been sugaring.  That’s over 26 years!

Brian will have to make another trip north to cut more greens this week for the rest of the wreaths and swags we need to make.  Waiting to cut until after a hard frost in the north country helps our wreaths hold needles well into the winter.  Most last into early spring if not in direct sun.  So don’t miss out and come by December 2nd 9am to 4pm and December 3rd 10am to 4pm.

We look forward to seeing you then!

It hardly seems like another 6 months have gone by, but they have.  We’ve had a lovely spring and summer.  Took a great vacation to Canada spending time in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.  Both beautiful places.  And we’ve welcomed another new grandchild to the family!  That makes 5 and they sure do keep us on our toes.

This year we’ve decided to open each weekend from now to Christmas and select other times as well to afford more folks an opportunity to stop in and pick up some wonderful maple goodies.  As usual we’ll be having our Holiday Open House the first weekend in December on the 2nd and 3rd, so look for an email or postcard if you are on the mailing list.  Or check us out on Facebook.  Updates will be posted on the website too.  Don’t forget we do still open on demand as long as we are home so if the posted hours don’t work for your schedule just give us a call.

Maple Season Sign-Off

It’s another one for the books.  Monday Brian started pulling down buckets and finished up today.  Overall, despite weird weather swings, we had a better season than last year.  20% better – not too bad!  So it’s on to bucket washing, scrubbing the evaporator clean and then Brian will be on to prepping next years wood.  Dropping trees, cutting, splitting and stacking a dozen cord or more to dry over the summer for next year.

Summer Farmers Markets start up in May so look for us at the Newburyport Market located at the Tannery every other Sunday starting May14th.

Thanks to you all who come to share and enjoy the maple sugaring experience with us.  We truly love to be able to share our passion with everyone and hopefully provide a little maple education in the process.

Happy Easter and have a fun summer.

Brian and Sue

Be sure to join us one weekend soon to get a taste of traditional sugaring in NH.  Hours will be 12 – 4pm each weekend and will be expanded if conditions permit.

We’ll offer tours of the sugar house, process and products whether we are boiling or not.  As always there will be samples to try and products to buy.  This weeks sap had great sugar content so we are off to a good start.  Please, bear with us if we ask for a few more weeks of cold to keep the season going through March!!
